Herding is one of the most amazing things you can do with your dog!
Watching the instinct come out and take over is incredible. It's also a
very enjoyable pastime, both training, and trailing, and the Montara Collies
enjoy it very much! One thing I have learned about training Collies, they do
take offense at much yelling!
This is Harley
after finishing her HS title and Spike finishing her PT - Fall, 97. Harley
would NOT look away from the sheep for ANYTHING!
Here
is Spikie working sheep. By the time she finished her HX, she had 4 AKC
High In Trials, all on ducks. She has an ASCA title on sheep and cattle.
Harley loves to herd about anything! She loves cattle, but only if they
are trying to stomp her, otherwise, it's just walking behind cows. She has
two AKC advanced legs on sheep, and one leg on
started cattle. She has earned an AKC High In Trial on each species!!!
(two on sheep)
Story and Paige have started working, and they both are showing amazing
talent!
Here is Story at an ASCA trial, first time she had ever worked ducks!
I've also had the privilege of training and trialing a couple of German
Shepherd Dogs for my friend Laurie Jeff Greer. One of the top winning Shepherds
of all time, Am, Can, Mex Ch Kaimacha Jamaica V McCoy, CD, HT, ROM and her
son Ch Kaimacha Fly By Night, CD, PT . What fun it was to have them
stay with me for a time, and learn by working another breed. Plus, I just
love German Shepherds! "Jaimie" earned her HT at 10 1/2 years of
age, and shortly after that went to a 4 day weekend of shows, adding another 3
Bests in Shows to her resume - what a dog! (Jamie is the
sable in the top picture, her son Rajim is the solid black in the bottom
picture)
